This year the Florida State Seminoles had an astounding record of 13-0. Sadly two weeks before the playoffs Jordan Travis the star quarterback suffered a broken leg in a game against North Alabama, on November 18 ending his season. Florida State would go on to win their next game against in-state rival the Florida Gators with backup quarterback Tate Rodemaker. However their final game was the ACC championship against the 14th ranked Louisville Cardinals. This time with third string quarterback Brock Glenn, they would find a way to rally and win a very close 16-6 game making Florida State the ACC champions. Glenn however showed very little to give people confidence Florida State was still a top four team without their star quarterback Jordan Travis.
The new ranking came out stating that Florida State has dropped to number five overall and number eight Alabama and seven Texas into the top four since Georgia lost this past week as well. The Seminoles are the first Power-5 undefeated team to not get into the playoffs. Many ESPN analysts are saying Florida State is a different team than they were through the first 11 weeks. According to the College Football Playoff selection committee the decision is based upon a series of factors one is the availability of key players.
I don't believe Florida State should be in the playoffs just because of the rules they state without key players it can cause an adjustment to rankings. That's why I believe the committee was correct with the decision because without arguably the best quarterback in college football the dynamic of the offense has obviously changed. Schedule also plays a factor and seeing that Florida State barely won their last two games without much offense I don’t believe they’ll be able to compete at the College Football Playoffs against some of the best defenses in the country.
